235th anniversary of the Battle of Jersey
Today is the 235th anniversary of the Battle of Jersey, also known as Pierson Day.
It remembers the date in 1781 when local militias and British Military stopped the French invading.
On Saturday local groups will reenact the march into Royal Square, where the Jersey victory was celebrated with musket fire.
Major Pierson led the British side against Baron Phillipe de Rullecourt, both of whom died.
Pierson was considered a hero to just, aged just 24.
Historian Frank Falle explains why he is held in such high esteem by islanders.
The British took 600 prisoners who were sent to England.
The French Royalists aimed to invade Jersey to remove the threat the island posed to French and American shipping in the American War of Independence.
Frank Falle says France never returned after the Battle of Jersey.
