Eight islanders recognised in New Year Honours List
Eight islanders have been recognised in the Queen's New Year Honours list.
One has been given an OBE, two an MBE, four a BEM and one a Queens Fire Service Medal.
The news has only been made public this morning, although those honoured have known for at least a month, and have had to keep it a secret.
Bailiwick residents given honours:
Howard Roberts QC in Guernsey has been given an OBE for his services to the crown.
Mr Roberts has been the Attorney General and HM Receiver General in the island since 2009. He has previously held the position of Solicitor General and moved to Guernsey in 1983.
Richard Stephen Le Page has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for Service to the Sport of Target Shooting in Guernsey.
The islander has been a coach for young players for the last 25 years. Earlier this year he was inducted into the new Coaching Roll of Honour at the Guernsey Sports Awards.
Kate Russell is given a BEM for Services to Heritage and Culture in Alderney and Normandy.
The islander was born in the state New York but has lived in Alderney for 25 years. She is the island's Librarian and was the Founder and Project Organiser of the Alderney Bayeux Tapestry
Jersey residents:
Phil Austin has been given a MBE for services to the community as the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Island Games 2015.
Mr Austin has spent his career in financial services. In 2009 he chaired the Bid Committee which successfully brought the 2015 NatWest Island Games to Jersey and he was the Chairman of the Organising Committee. Phil is also the current President of the Jersey Football Association.
Clive Jones has been given a MBE for his services to Jersey Heritage.
He was the Chairman of the organisation from 2008 until recently and before then he was a Trustee of Jersey Heritage.
Mr Jones spent his career in the banking and finance industry, was Chairman of Governors of Grainville School, Chairman of Governors of Highlands College, and a committee member of the Jubilee Sailing Trust.
Angela Francey has been given a BEM for services to reconciliation of the Community of Jersey and Bad Wurzach.
Mrs Francey is the Secretary of the St Helier - Bad Wurzach Partnerschaft Committee and has been involved in running annual ceremonies and events linking Jersey with Bad Wurzach for three decades.
Jean McLaughlin has been given a BEM for services to the recognition of evacuees during the Occupation.
The islander was evacuated with her parents during WW2.
Over the past decade Jean has been responsible for installing a number of plaques both in Jersey and the UK marking that chapter in history. In 2011 she also complied a book containing dozens of islanders' accounts of the evacuation.
Mark James has been given the QFSM (Queen's Fire Service Medal) for dedication and innovation in the Fire Service.
He has been in the service for 27 yrs, almost nine of them in Jersey. Honoured for the various fire awareness campaigns he's run
