From chasing criminals to chasing chickens: A day in the life of one of Alderney's only police officers

It's hardly a patch where you would expect to bring down big crime bosses or be on the hunt for serious offenders, but for ex-Derbyshire Police officer James Taylor, a role as one of Alderney's three bobbies has proven to be his dream job.

He moved to the island with his family, after landing a job on the small island.

Despite being a far cry from what he is used to, James says he is enjoying the simpler life.

Now he is chasing the chickens in his back garden more often than he is chasing offenders.

James landed the position after coming across a job listing on the internet.

Despite not knowing exactly where Alderney was, after reading up about the island, he decided it was the place for him.

Patrolling around the island in Alderney's only police vehicle is one of the many tasks James enjoys about his new post - even if it only takes a very small amount of time.

For his family, too, the benefits of their new home are already beginning to show.
