Jersey Fire Cadet makes history by becoming firefighter
For the first time ever, a Jersey Fire Cadet has made it into the Fire and Rescue Service as an On-Call Firefighter working from Western Fire Station.
Daniel Whelan joined the Fire and Rescue Cadet group in October 2012.
His leaders say he showed a great attitude and aptitude, which led to him getting promoted to Cadet Crew Commander the following year.
Last year, the 18-year-old was awarded Cadet of the year and was presented with a trophy by Chief Fire Officer Mark James.
His success encouraged him to apply for an on-call firefighter position and following selection and successful completion of his recruit's course, he is now serving as an on-call firefighter working from Western fire station at evenings and weekends.
