Zoo staff 'devastated' after gorilla dies

Staff at a zoo in Australia are said to be "devastated" at the death of Julia - a gorilla brought up in the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust in Jersey.

Julia was attacked by a fellow silverback gorilla, called Otana.

On Friday he showed unexpected aggression towards her, and on Saturday staff noticed that she appeared unwell.

She was taken to the veterinary hospital, but later died.

Staff at Melbourne Zoo have been offered counselling to help them through this difficult time.
