Alderney has been remembering 70 years since the Germans finally surrendered and gave up occupancy in their island.
A week after Jersey and Guernsey, residents have been commemorating the end of the hostilities with a variety of music, talks and performances.
For some, it has brought memories flooding back.
Olga Bott recognised herself in a photograph pumping water, and recalled returning to the island after the war. Her family ran the Rose and Crown Hotel.
This weekend's events were co-organised by Living Islands. Ordinarily Alderney’s ‘Liberation’ events revolve around the anniversary of islanders’ return to Alderney in December 1945.
Beda Thompson, nee Sabire, was 12 when she was evacuated. She said hearing the Alderney Anthem had brought back emotional memories for her.
Events marking 75 years since the evacuation of Alderney will take place on 23rd June. They will include most of Alderney’s schoolchildren recreating the evacuation on the Victor Hugo, taking just a suitcase with them.
