Emotional medal presentation for Jerseyman

Colin Taylor BEM and Lieutenant Governor.

A Jerseyman has been honoured with a British Empire Medal, to reward his services to the homeless.

The Lieutenant Governor presented the medal to Colin Taylor BEM, on behalf of the Queen.

Watch the moment he received the medal:

Mr Taylor was too ill to travel to London and was grateful to receive the honour locally.

In an emotional interview, he speaks of the support he's received from friends, family and the community, and of the future:

He founded the charity Caring Hands, and set up the refuge Sanctuary House in St Aubin, which offers support to men who may have experienced domestic abuse, and have nowhere to turn.

The charity has since set up more refuges, including one in St Helier.

And in April 2014 another charity he founded, Love Thy Neighbour, opened Jersey's first almshouse since 1859.

The Lieutenant Governor says the Queen approved the recommendation remarkably quickly, showing how deserving Mr Taylor is:
