Calls for more Channel Island-based degree courses

There are calls for more degree courses to be offered on island.

UCAS is revealing today how many Channel Island students have applied to mainland universities.

But some say the islands would benefit if more courses were offered locally.

There are some degrees offered in Jersey, including BA (Hons) in Childhood Services, BA (Hons) in Financial Services and a BSc (Hons) in Construction Management, but none offered in Guernsey. Plans to set up a University of the Channel Islands in Guernsey are said to be progressing well to start in 2016 though.

One student on a degree course in Jersey says that one island degree courses are a great benefit to both the island, and the people who take the courses.

Ben thinks that if there were more opportunities locally, people would use them.
