How your lottery money helps local charities

Each year the Christmas Lottery raises thousands of pounds for local good causes.

Last year more than £200,000 was raised in Guernsey, which helped 33 local organisations fund projects and services around the island for the benefit of the local community.

In Jersey, more than £400,000, which included any ad hoc donations, was distributed.

In Guernsey this year, one of those charities helped was the Daisy Chain nursery. Thanks to its lottery grant, it was saved from closure.

Daisy Chain was given £10,000 worth of lottery money. Without that and help from the government, it would have closed.

It's made a huge difference to the children, meaning they can now continue to learn and enjoy nursery.

Daisy Chain are now urging other island charities to apply for some of this year's lottery money, because that funding can make all the difference.

A message from the children at Daisy Chain to the Christmas Lottery:

Where can you apply?

Jersey's application process is continuous throughout the year through the Association of Jersey Charities.

Guernsey's application process is open now until the end of January through the Association of Guernsey Charities.
