A Channel Island equal rights charity is urging the public to get tested for HIV.

It is to mark National HIV Testing Week.

Liberate says early diagnosis of HIV is the key to successful treatment and is encouraging people to use the free clinics available in Jersey and Guernsey to get checked.

Free testing can be found at the following places:

Guernsey’s Orchard Centre: 01481707707

Jersey’s Genito-Urinary Medicine (GUM) Clinic: 01534 442856

Guernsey's Orchard Clinic in Guernsey has put in place extra measures for National HIV Testing Week to try and make it as easy as possible for people to pop in.

People can arrive at the Orchard Clinic during clinic hours and have an HIV test done immediately without the need for a prior appointment.

The blood sample is collected and the HIV test will be done with the results available in 30 minutes.
