Impressive Jets learning all the time
From our Sports Correspondent Rob Jones
After losing two of their opening three games this season it would have been easy for Team Jets to accept that their first campaign in the Premiership would be one of consolidation.
Beaten in heart-breaking fashion by both Ryland and Cumberland, it was clear that unbeaten seasons are a thing of the past but since then the response, from a team with incredible determination, has been superb.
The Jets rediscovered their sparkle at Dudley before an outstanding win against Kent – a team who came into the match unbeaten and on top of the table.
What was confirmed to Jersey early on is that there is almost no room for a bad quarter at this level of netball. Last season they were so superior in South-West Regional One they could afford to coast through the second half of some games and still win with ease.
But in the Premiership a healthy lead can be quickly eroded and mistakes brutally punished as Jersey found in their first home game against Cumberland.
The hard work the Jets have done over the summer in improving their fitness has clearly worked but the recent results say so much about their mental strengths. They have always been a team that can’t stand losing and make no apologies for that, just moments after their promotion their captain Lauren Devine was already talking about doing the same thing again in 2015.
And now that confidence doesn’t look unrealistic – two teams have won four of their five games so far, whilst a further four sides have won three out of five including the Jets.
To be up there competing at the end of the season they must continue to produce complete performances – consistency is key. So is the crowd - for opposing teams Les Ormes is looking like an increasingly difficult place to go.
The Jets fans are being treated to competitive, compelling netball and to make it even better they’re winning as well.
