A woman who died after being hit by debris from a roof in Wolverhampton city centre yesterday (23 February) has been named as Tahnie Martin.

The 29-year-old from Stafford worked at the University of Wolverhampton and was walking along Dudley Street with colleagues when a large piece of wooden roofing flew from a building during Storm Doris. Miss Martin received fatal injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The area was immediately cordoned off and officers are working with Wolverhampton City Council and the Health and Safety Executive to establish what happened.

Detective Inspector Paul Joyce said:

We are still trying to ascertain who the building belongs to and whether there is any criminal liability.
