Unity rallies held across the Midlands after surge in hate crime

Hundreds of people joined rallies across the East Midlands today in a show of unity against hate crime.

It comes after a surge in the number of reports of racial abuse and attacks nationwide following the EU referendum - with the National Police Chiefs Council saying it had seen a 57 per cent rise in the days following the vote.

Vigil for a 'united, tolerant' Leicester

A vigil was held in Leicester to show city is 'united, tolerant and stands together' to face any challenge after Britain voted to leave the European Union.

The Leicester Council of Faiths organised the 'We are Together' vigil at Jubilee Square this afternoon.

We must stay confident in our ability to live together and need to continue our work as we have been doing in the past.

We must offer some positive channel now for people/communities to come together locally, to raise their concerns through a peaceful and democratic way and show our unity.
