Dragonboat Festival: Sat 18th June (Brindleyplace, Birmingham)
In teams of 11, more than 200 of the city’s professionals will take to the water in 30ft traditional Chinese longboats this weekend for the annual Dragonboat festival in Birmingham.
Now in it’s 17th year the event will see boats race along the Birmingham and Worcester Canal.
In honour of Father’s Day, on Sunday 19 June, and as part of the Cure Leukaemia team, former footballer and blood cancer survivor, Geoff Thomas, will also be competing in the race in a ‘boat of dads’.
This is a totally unique event to the city and nowhere else in Birmingham can you watch this fantastic spectacle for free.
There’s also plenty for the whole family to enjoy throughout the day… there will be performances from traditional Chinese Lion Dancers in between the racing.”
