BATMAN: How is Nottingham linked to caped crusader?

A mysterious caped crusader who dresses as Batman has been spotted hanging from bus stops and landmarks in broad daylight around Nottingham city centre.

It may seem random but Nottingham is in fact linked to the famous caped crusader.

Find out what links the City has to Batman:

• Batman writers have acknowledged the connection to the Nottinghamshire village Gotham. They say it inspired author Washington Irving and led to the nickname “Gothamers” who live in the city.
• Gotham was only first referred to in The Batman Chronicles #6, before that is was known as an unnamed metropolis.

• In the comic books a scheming villain reveals why the city should be named Gotham: "We could call it 'Gotham' after a village in England where, according to common belief, all are bereft of their wits”.
• People in Gotham were known as 'mad' because the legend goes they pretended to be to stop King John using their roads, as madness was believed to be contagious.
• Filming for Christopher Nolan’s 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises took place at Wollaton Hall, which was used as Wayne Manor.
