UKIP has become the biggest opposition party at Cannock Chase Council, after a councillor left the Conservatives to become an Independent.
The Tories had six seats in today's results, as did UKIP. But a statement on Cannock Chase Council's website said that Cllr Jodie Jones has become an independent, thereby reducing the number of Tory councillors to five.
Ms Jones' seat in Rawnsley was not in contention last night, but her move now means the make-up of the council has been revised to: Labour - 25 Councillors, UKIP - 6 Councillors, Conservatives - 5 Councillors, Liberal Democrats - 3 Councillors, Independent - 2 Councillors.
Ukip have won seats at the expense of both the Conservative and Labour parties in local elections, so far. No results are in from London.
ITV News Central reporter Callum Watkinson was at the local election count in Walsall, and has sent this report from the night.
