Memorial for Kegworth air disaster victims 25 years on

Today marks 25 years since one of the UK's worst air disasters, when 47 people died after a British Midland Boeing 737 en route to Belfast crashed into an embankment on the M1 during an attempted emergency landing at East Midlands airport.

First cameraman on scene describes Kegworth crash

Retired ATV cameraman Gary Hughes was the first TV crew at the scene of the Kegworth air disaster on January 8 1989.

He said it was quiet, with just the noise of ambulances on the northbound carriageway of the M1 next to where the plane had crash landed on the embankment.

He also describes how organised the rescue effort was, despite the scenes of devastation around him.
