The detective in charge of an investigation into the death of a three-year-old boy in Birmingham, has said it was the "worst" child abuse case she had ever seen.
Detective chief inspector Caroline Marsh of West Midlands Police has described Rebecca Shuttleworth as "a monster" for the harm she inflicted on the toddler.
"The officers who have been working on this case have been shocked by the total abuse suffered," said Ms Marsh.
She added: "At the time of his death he had more than 30 separate bruises and burns to his tiny body and must have suffered terribly as a result."
