Police officer seriously injured after being run over by suspected car thief in Birmingham

The officer who underwent surgery over the weekend has been named as PC Gareth Phillips.

A man charged with attempted murder after a police officer was run over in Birmingham is to appear in court on Monday.

The West Midlands Police officer suffered a broken pelvis and head and internal injuries after being run over while attempting an arrest.

The officer for West Midlands Police is being treated for head and pelvic injuries in hospital.
