West Midlands Police has confirmed to ITV News Central that there will be no criminal investigation after a woman died during Storm Doris in Wolverhampton last week.

West Midlands Police has confirmed to ITV News Central that there will be no criminal investigation after a woman died during Storm Doris in Wolverhampton last week.

29-year-old Tahnie Martin from Stafford received fatal injuries after she was hit by a large piece of wooden roofing from a building on Dudley Street on February 23.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Police said:

The investigation is now being led by the local authority in Wolverhampton and supported by West Midlands Police and the Health & Safety Executive in a bid to establish the full circumstances which led to the woman’s tragic death.

A spokesman for City of Wolverhampton Council said:

Following last week’s tragic incident in Dudley Street, City of Wolverhampton Council can confirm that it will be the lead agency taking responsibility to carry out the investigation into what happened.

The council will continue to work closely with the police and Health & Safety Executive. These are extremely early days in the process and it will inevitably take time to establish the facts.

Northamptonshire Police have thanked the public for their support during Storm Doris.

The force took more than 80 calls yesterday (23 February) about fallen trees blocking roads, as well as other incidents involving storm related damage and a number of road traffic collisions.

Superintendent Dennis Murray, from the Force Control Room, said:

I would like to thank those people who answered our call for help and offered their services to clear roads where trees had fallen.

Their help allowed roads to be cleared much more quickly than they otherwise would have been.

Woman hit on head with carport roof

A woman has been treated for a serious head injury and taken to hospital after being hit by a carport roof.

The incident happened on Hartshill Road in Stoke on Trent, yesterday (23 February) afternoon.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said:

On arrival, crews were told the roof fell down and hit the woman.

The woman, believed to be in her 60s, was treated for a serious head injury and was suffering from a slightly reduced level of consciousness.

Replacement bus services are running on London Midland services between Lichfield Trent Valley and Sutton Coldfield, between Longbridge and Redditch and between Longbridge and Bromsgrove.

There is a service suspended between Redditch and Lichfield Trent Valley due to damage to the overhead electric wires.

Tickets are being accepted on Local buses and CrossCountry services.

Police confirm Storm Doris victim is 29 year old woman

Police have confirmed that a woman who died in Wolverhampton this afternoon was 29 years old.

She was walking past Starbucks in the pedestrianised area of Dudley Street just before midday when wooden debris from a nearby building, described by an eyewitness as the size of a coffee-table, struck her.

Emergency services said nothing could be done to save her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are now working alongside the council to establish how it happened.

The area remains cordoned off while investigations are ongoing. The family of the victim have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
