Fatal house explosion caused by build up of petrol vapours

An explosion at a house in Wolverhampton which killed one man was caused by a build up of petrol vapours, West Midlands Fire Service said.

Our investigators have carried out a thorough examination of the scene.

We believe that the explosion and resulting fire followed a build up of petrol vapours inside the property.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and no-one other than the victim is believed to have been involved.

We will now submit a report to HM Coroner.

Fire crews dealing with explosion in Wolverhampton

Four fire crews are currently tackling a blaze following an explosion on Rylands Drive in the Penn area of Wolverhampton.

Police, ambulance and air ambulance also in attendance at incident.
