Tributes have been paid to a two-year-old girl who died after a car crash in Birmingham yesterday afternoon.

Flowers, cards and a toy bear have been left at the scene of the crash, where a car hit a wall and a tree in Gibbins Road, Selly Oak.

The girl, who's been named as Esmee, was taken to hospital after being given CPR at the scene by passers-by before paramedics arrived. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving there.

Four adults who were in the car all went to hospital, but did not suffer serious injuries.

A 22-year-old woman arrested after her 2-year-old daughter was killed in a crash in Birmingham yesterday has been released by police.

Police were called to Gibbins Road in Selly Oak, at around 4pm where a Ford Fiesta had left the road and hit a tree.

Four other people in the vehicle, including the girl’s mother who was driving, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

A post mortem examination is due to take place.

A baby has died after a car crash in Birmingham this afternoon.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to Gibbins Road in Selly Oak at 3.55pm, where a car had hit a wall and a tree.

The first ambulance crew to arrive immediately took the baby to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, trying to resuscitate the child with CPR en-route. Sadly, the baby was confirmed dead at hospital. There were four adults in the car. A woman driver who had a head injury was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. A woman who was a front seat passenger got herself out of the car with minor injuries and made her own way to a hospital. Two other woman, both rear seat passengers were both immobilised and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. One had a head injury, a back injury and a minor chest injury. The other had back pain.
