With news that the famous white tennis dress worn in the Athena tennis posters from the 1970s is going under the hammer, we've been looking at the famous faces who've recreated the image.

Most recently, Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden paid homage to the famous photograph that was taken in Birmingham in the 1970s.

Famous tennis girl poster dress to be auctioned

The white tennis dress made famous in the iconic Tennis Girl poster of the 1970s is going to be auctioned off in the West Midlands next month.

The dress is handmade with lace trim and was made famous in the photograph taken on a Birmingham University tennis court in 1976.

The photograph was taken by the late Martin Elliott and featured his then-girlfriend Fiona Butler from Worcestershire.

The photograph sold more than two million copies worldwide.

The dress, tennis racquet and two posters will go under the hammer at Fieldings Auctioneers in Stourbridge on Wimbledon Ladies' Finals day - Saturday 5th July.

A dress from the world famous Athena tennis picture in up for auction in the Midlands.

The shot, which was taken at the University of Birmingham in 1976, sold two million copies worldwide.

The dress, along with the racquet and two posters, are expected to fetch between £1,000 and £2,000. The sale will be held on the same day as the Wimbledon ladies' final.
