A judicial review is taking place today into the death of a man from Birmingham who died outside a nightclub in Manchester, in 2009. Julian Webster died after being restrained in a neck hold for more than eight minutes.

CPS 'will reflect on court's decision and carry out review'

The Crown Prosecution Service has said it will reflect on the court's decision today, and carry out a review of the case of the death of Julian Webster.

Prosecutors were ordered by judges to review their original decision not to prosecute anyone over the death of Julian Webster, who died outside a nightclub in Manchester in 2009.

Following the outcome of the judicial review at the High Court into the CPS decision not to prosecute in the case relating to the tragic death of Julian Webster, we will now reflect on the court’s decision and carry out a further review of the case.

Our sympathies remain with Julian Webster’s family and friends who have suffered such a sad loss.

Judge tells prosecutors to review case of Julian Webster's death

A judge has said prosecutors must review the case of a Birmingham man who died after being restrained by door staff outside a bar.

Julian Webster, 24, died in 2009 after being held in a headlock for eight minutes.

Two men were arrested at the time, but the Crown Prosecution Service in Manchester decided it was not in the public interest to prosecute.

Today at a High Court hearing in Birmingham, a judge said the case needed to be reconsidered.

Nobody has ever been charged with Julian's death, which happened outside a Manchester nightclub in 2009.
