Tipton couple wed as same sex marriage comes into force

Two women made history today when they became the first couple to have a same sex marriage at a register office in the Midlands.

Rebecca and Sarah Billington-Green were married just hours after a change in the law allowing people of the same sex to be married rather than have a civil partnership.

The rainbow flag is flying Birmingham city centre as the first same-sex couples are getting married across England and Wales.

Same sex couples will be able to wed from today as the new law permitting same sex marriage comes into force.

The couple have been together for three years and have an 18-month-old son.
