A woman who disappeared almost nine months ago may have been murdered, police revealed today. Lisa Bennett has not been seen since May last year.

Police fear missing woman dead due to lack of evidence showing signs of life

Officers investigating the disappearance of a 39-year-old woman in Birmingham nine months ago, say they believe she may be dead, because they have failed to find any evidence to suggest otherwise.

Detective Inspector Warren Hines said Lisa Bennett has done none the usual things you would associate with normal life, like making telephone calls or going to the bank, since she went missing in May last year.

Lisa Bennett's mother, Janet, has also appealed for any information that will help police find her.

Sister of missing woman: 'I want to find Lisa, whether she is dead or alive'

The sister of a woman who has been missing since May last year says it is "so hard" not knowing where she is.

39-year-old Lisa Bennett was last seen in a shop in Northfield. Her sister, Lindsey, says she wants to find her sister, whether she is alive or dead.

Despite a lengthy investigation, officers have failed to find any evidence that she is still alive.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a Birmingham woman who went missing almost nine months ago.

Lisa Bennett, 39, was last seen on May 9 last year in the Selly Oak area of Birmingham.

Detectives said inquiries have taken place to find Lisa but after eight months of investigations there had been "no evidence" to suggest Lisa is still alive.

Today, police visited an address in Birmingham where a 34 year old man was arrested on suspicion of her murder. A search is continuing at the address for any more information.

Despite the arrest the Police are continuing to search for the missing woman.

Detective Inspector Warren Hines, who is leading the investigation, said:

Regardless of what has caused her disappearance, Lisa is still missing. We need to find her and give her family some answers.

That is why it is so important that people call us if they know anything at all.

Inspector Hines added Lisa, originally from Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire, had a "complex lifestyle", serving time in prison linked to a heroin and cocaine addiction.

Detectives investigating her disappearance today said they had found "no evidence" that she planned to leave - and said there had been no movement in the bank accounts since she was last seen.

Lisa is white, around 5ft 8ins tall, with short dark brown hair and a flower tattoo on her right shoulder.
