Nottingham pumping station given prestigious award
An historic Victorian tourist attraction in Nottinghamshire has been given a prestigious engineering award.
Papplewick Pumping Station near Ravenshead opened in 1884, and provided clean water to residents in Nottingham right up until 1969, maintaining standards of health in the area.
Today representatives of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers awarded the station with an Engineering Heritage Award, which recognises past, present and future engineering excellence.
The award puts Papplewick alongside other winners including the Channel Tunnel, Tower Bridge, The Jaguar E-Type and the Nottingham CHP Community Heating System.
