Police search canal in murder inquiry
Police divers are searching a canal as part of an inquiry into the suspected murder of a man from Nottingham. James Brodie disappeared in 2003 shortly after the murder of Mansfield jeweller Marian Bates. The search at East Heckington in Lincolnshire is due to last the week.
Dean Betton, who's 32 and from Raleigh Street in Radford, is accused of his murder. Two men aged 31 and 34 remain on bail whilst further inquiries are carried out.

A further search in connection with the murder of James Brodie will begin today.
Part of a canal in Lincolnshire will be searched this week. It follows a search of Maize Farm in East Heckington, Lincolnshire last month. That provided police with some samples to send off for further tests.
The 19-year-old is believed to have gone missing shortly after jeweller Marian Bates was shot dead during a robbery at the Time Centre, in Arnold, in September 2003.
Dean Betton, who is 32 and from Radford, has been charged with James Brodie’s murder.

Man bailed over Brodie inquiry
A 34-year old man arrested on suspicion of the murder of James Brodie has been bailed.
James Brodie, who was 19, is believed to have gone missing shortly after jeweller Marian Bates was shot dead during a robbery at the Time Centre, Arnold, in September 2003.
Last week searches at Maize Farm, in East Heckington, Lincolnshire, resulted in a number of samples being sent off for further scientific tests.
Dean Betton, 32, of Raleigh Street, Radford, has been charged with James Brodie’s murder.
A 31-year-old man, who was also arrested on suspicion of James Brodie’s murder, was released on bail, pending further enquiries.
Third man arrested in the search for James Brodie
Nottinghamshire Police have arrested a third man in connection with the disappearance of James Brodie.
The arrest was made earlier today in Nottingham when a 34-year-old was detained on suspicion of murder.
Mr Brodie, then aged 19, is believed to have gone missing shortly after jeweller Marian Bates was shot dead during a robbery at the Time Centre in Arnold, Nottingham, in September 2003.
Two men were arrested last week on suspicion of Mr Brodie's murder, including a 31-year-old man who was later released on bail.
The other man, 32-year-old Dean Betton, of Radford, Nottingham, was charged with Mr Brodie's murder and appeared in court in Lincoln last week.
Man appears in court over the death of James Brodie
A man accused of murdering a 19-year-old, who has been missing for almost a decade, has appeared before Magistrates.
Police spent all of last week searching for the remains of James Brodie on a farm in Lincolnshire. He went missing in 2003 after the fatal shooting of jeweller Marian Bates.
Today, Dean Betton from Radford in Nottingham, spoke only to confirm his name and address. He'll appear at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday.

Local men arrested for the murder of James Brodie
Two men have been arrested over the murder of James Brodie – the man wanted by police over the shooting of a jeweller in Nottingham.
The men – one from Nottinghamshire, the other Derbyshire – were arrested at separate addresses this morning and are now being questioned at Grantham police station.
Specialist officers have arrived at Maize Farm in East Heckington, Lincolnshire, where they're carrying out an in-depth search into the whereabouts of James Brodie.
Underground imagery equipment, Cadaver dogs – who search for human remains, and forensic archaeologists have now joined the search.
It's expected that an excavation may take place in the next few days.

The men, aged 32 and 31, were arrested early this morning as the search at Maize Farm in East Heckington, Lincolnshire, continues for a third day.

He has not made any contact with family or friends in more than nine years.
Police believe his body may be at Maize Farm and a murder inquiry was launched in 2007.
