Stoke legend Phil Taylor was named the Player of the Year at the PDC Annual Awards Dinner last night.

'The Power', which Phil Taylor is also known as, claimed his 16th World Darts Championship on New Year's Day following a hugely successful 12 months.

The World Champion, said: "It's a wonderful honour to receive this award. With the brilliant performances of so many players in the last year, it means a huge amount to me to be named as the Player of the Year."

Stoke's Phil "The Power" Taylor won a record 16th world title as he fought back to beat Michael van Gerwen 7-4 at the PDC World Darts Championships.

Taylor won five straight sets as he came from 4-2 down to clinch an historic win.

Taylor dismissed rumours of a retirement from the sport by confirming he will be back to defend his title next year.
