Health & Safety Executive issue statement about fairground accident

The Health & Safety executive have confirmed they are investigating the fairground accident in Leicester and have issued the following statement.

"The fairground operators took the decision to close the site over the weekend, and the ride has been removed from site and is awaiting further inspection by HSE."

"A Prohibition Notice has been served by HSE on the ride operator, William Norman Roberts, to stop the use of the particular Megabounce fairground ride that was involved in the incident, being used anywhere in England, Scotland or Wales. The operator can appeal this Prohibition Notice within the next 21 days."

"This is a live investigation which may lead to enforcement action, so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

Fairground ride taken away for inspection after accident

The ride which was involved in the accident has been removed and taken away for an inspection by the Health and Safety Executive.

Two teenage boys were thrown from a loose carriage while the ride was moving and are both being treated at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

One suffered a broken arm and broken ribs, and another a chipped tooth when they were dragged around by the ride.

Two teenage boys have been hurt after a carriage fell from a fairground ride while it was spinning around.

The boys were thrown through the air when the ride broke at the Billy Bates fun fair in Abbey Park on Saturday evening.

They both had to be taken to hospital.

Police were called by the ambulance service at 6:16pm, after reports two people were injured on the ride.

The Health & Safety Executive visited the site that evening and issued a prohibition notice on the ride, and it was dismantled and taken away to be investigated.
