Two people arrested in connection with the deaths of a man and woman in Walsall will face no further action by police.

An investigation was launched after 39-year-old Clare Sly and 43-year-old Derrick Vassell were found dead at a house on Laneside Gardens, Birchills at 1.37am on Friday 8th June.

Police arrested a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman who were later released on bail.

Their bail has now been cancelled and they face no charges following the deaths.

Police said an inquest will be opened in due course and a file is being prepared or the coroner.

Police have named the man and a woman shot dead in Walsall.

Derrick Vassell, aged 43, was found at a house in Laneside Gardens, Birchills, on Friday. He had been shot in the chest.

Thirty-nine-year-old Clare Sly was found at the same house with similar injuries.

A forensic post mortem revealed both victims died as a result of gunshot wounds to the chest.

Derrick suffered two gunshot injuries, while Clare suffered one gunshot injury.

Michaela Kerr from West Midlands CID, said: "Following extensive investigations and the results of a post mortem, we can confirm the death of Derrick is being treated as murder.

"We continue to investigate the exact circumstances of how Clare came to sustain her fatal gunshot injury.

"Enquiries are ongoing but one line of enquiry is that Clare took her own life.

"Whilst we await further specialist test results, the 23 year old man and a 22 year old woman who were arrested in connection with the deaths remain on police bail."

A forensic post-mortem examination has revealed both victims who died in a shooting at a house in Walsall yesterday died as a result of gunshot wounds to the chest.

The 43-year-old man was shot twice, while the 39-year-old woman was shot once.

Locals have named the woman as Clare Sly, a mother of three and a teaching assistant at Alumwell Junior School.

A 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder but have been released on bail overnight.

A man and a woman have been bailed after a couple were shot dead in their home in Walsall.

Officers were called to a house on Laneside Gardens in Birchalls in the early hours of Friday June 8th.

A 43-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman died despite attempts to revive them by ambulance crews.

Locals have named the woman as Clare Sly, a mother of three and a teaching assistant at Alumwell Junior School.

A 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder but have been released on bail overnight.

A post-mortem examination into the cause of the couple's deaths is due to take place later today.
