Birmingham Airport's runway reopens after overnight snow
Birmingham Airport has reopened its runway after having to close because of heavy snow last night.
It comes after an amber weather warning was issued across the Midlands with disruption from snow and freezing rain expected over the weekend.
Shortly after midnight, Birmingham Airport made the announcement on X that they had to close for 'snow clearing and safety reasons'.
Having warned passengers it would be closed for a minimum of two hours, it wasn't until 03:18 when the airport announced that their runway had reopened after successfully clearing the snow.
A number of flights were delayed by up to two hours this morning.
In a statement, Birmingham Airport told ITV Central: “As a result of resilience teams working throughout the night, the start up to the schedule remains business as usual.
"Passengers travelling to the airport are advised to allow plenty of time, and we will continue to update passengers throughout the morning. For regular updates please visit the Birmingham Airport website here and those of passenger airlines.”
