A grassroots football club in West Bromwich say it is "devastated" after vandals chewed up their football pitches, carving huge ditches into the ground.

The club's five pitches, three 9-a-side and two 11-a-side, have now all been destroyed in the damage.

All matches have been postponed indefinitely.

The club, which has over 600 grassroots players, is now looking for somewhere else to play while it raises the thousands of pounds needed to repair the damage.

The FA approved pitches at Bustlehome FC are used to get children aged between 4-18 involved in grassroots football.

Michelle Gannon, secretary at the club said, "Everyone involved with the club is devastated.

"As volunteers we all came down in the summer even on days off from work, we all chipped in out of hours, we were here until night time sometime doing the pitches and put a lot of effort into keeping them in good condition.

"The young people always look forward to playing and now they are not able to play because it's not safe.

"The people that have done this need to think about the impact that this has had on children and on the community.

Kian Soulsby, a committee member at the club said, "All the time, effort and even money that we have put into making our pitches the best they can be for all the kids that come and play and we now think that this season is a write off."
