Man, 30, arrested after boy, 2, killed in hit-and-run in Smethwick

A 30-year-old man has been arrested after a two-year-old boy died in a suspected hit-and-run in Smethwick, which also left two others seriously injured.

Four adults and the child were taken to hospital after the crash which happened in Dartmouth Road just before 11pm on December 14.

The toddler died from his injuries. Meanwhile a woman aged 29 and a 30-year-old man remain in a serious condition, while another man and woman aged 30 are described as stable.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: "We acted on information and detained a 30-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in Dartmouth Road on Saturday evening (14 December).

"He is now in custody for questioning.

"A woman aged 29 and a 30-year-old man remain in a serious condition in hospital following the collision."
