Man and woman arrested on suspicion of murder after baby found dead in Stoke-on-Trent
A man and woman in their 20s have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a baby was found dead at a property in Stoke-on-Trent.
The baby boy died at an address in Sherwin Road, Burslem, with Staffordshire Police being alerted by West Midlands Ambulance Service at 9.09am on August 27.
A 26-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, both from Stoke-on-Trent, were arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child on August 30 and released on conditional bail, but were both further arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of murder and are being questioned by detectives.
Specialist officers are supporting the baby’s family, Staffordshire Police said.
Detective Inspector Gina Pope, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a distressing incident which will have shocked the local community.
“We are working to establish the circumstances around the baby’s death.
“Speculation on social media would be extremely unhelpful and will cause unnecessary distress to those affected by this incident at this already very difficult time.”
