Man, 26, arrested after four people injured in shooting and stabbing incident in Walsall
A man has been arrested after a shooting and stabbing incident in Walsall left four people injured, two seriously.
It happened in Reedswood Lane, Birchills, close to the junction with Old Birchills Road, shortly before midnight on Wednesday, July 31.West Midlands Police received reports of a gun being fired at a car and fighting on Reedswood Lane, near a convenience shop, at around 11.50pm.
West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers and a trauma doctor, with a critical care paramedic, to the scene.A spokesman from the Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a gunshot incident near to the junction of Old Birchills and Reedswood Lane at 11.50pm. We treated two patients for serious injuries, one of whom, a man, had suffered gunshot injuries.
"They were then both transferred to a major trauma centre. Two further patients were treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being handed over to hospital.”
West Midlands Police confirmed all four of the injured people were men. One had gunshot wounds and the others stab wounds. Two of the men were in a serious condition and two sustained injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening.Police officers attended the scene and recovered a gun and machete from Reedswood Lane. The weapons are due to be forensically examined for clues. A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding.A second scene with police tape and a blue police tent was also in place at Walsall Manor Hospital, with the Pleck Road entrance blocked off. It was believed to have been linked to the scene in Birchills.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police added: "We received reports of fighting and a gun being fired at a car in Reedswood Lane, Birchills, at around 11.50pm on Wednesday (July 31). Such violence is unacceptable and won't be tolerated.“We've now got section 60 stop and search powers in place. As always our main focus is to keep everyone safe."
