'Jealous' thug blinded woman with brutal one-punch attack
A jealous thug has been jailed for blinding a woman with a single punch.
Rhys Buchanan, 23, accused the woman of cheating on him before punching her, taking her sight in one eye.It happened in May 2022 and left left the victim in hospital for several days.
Buchanan, of Pershore Road, Selly Oak, admitted causing grievous bodily harm on November 7 last year.He was jailed for three years and three months on Wednesday February 14 at Birmingham Crown Court.
Following sentencing, West Midlands Police investigating officer Kathryn Burns spoke of the "life-changing" impact of Buchanan's attack, and encouraged anyone who found themselves in abusive situations to seek help.
She said: “Violence against women in a domestic situation is a devastating crime that can have a profound impact on victims and their families.
“This young woman has been left with a life changing injury which has affected her, not only physically, but psychologically and emotionally.
"We are committed to tackling domestic violence head-on to create a safer society for all women and girls.“We work with several partner agencies and charities who can offer support to women who find themselves in an abusive situation and we would urge them to seek help if they feel able to.”
