Outfit made famous by RuPaul's Drag Race star Ginny Lemon features in Worcester display

The drag costume celebrating two of Worcester's most famous exports is now on display in the city.

The costume was originally worn on RuPaul's Drag Race by Worcester's Ginny Lemon and celebrates Worcestershire sauce and Vesta Tilley. After a plea on social media, the outfit is now featured in the city's museum.

Ginny has just donated it to Museums Worcestershire and revealed that the outfit was customised by a friend but unlike its owner, is not a complete one-off.

"But it was tailored to me and designed and the design on the back, which is a kind of tribute to the Worcestershire Sauce label.

"Obviously not the original one because they would sue me and I've got no money!"

Ginny told ITV Central "It was bought off the high street but that will never…Joe Public never notice these things."

Ginny has made the point that drag doesn't have to be a man dressed as a woman. It can work in reverse. This , Ginny says is in homage to music hall star Vesta Tilley.

Born in Worcester in 1864 Matilda Powles, Tilley to her family, began performing on stage at the age of five - dressed as a boy and later poked fun at Victorian society.

By the 1890s she was the highest-paid woman in England - later marrying a Lord and retiring to Monte Carlo.

Her shows, recreated in the 1957 film After The Ball, were considered so shocking that some ladies in the audience would hide their faces to avoid seeing women in trousers.

"To have this history of drag in Worcester is truly amazing so I can't help but celebrate it and continue that legacy."

Vesta Tilley

Ginny says "Vesta for me is incredibly important because it is a true representation of somebody from Worcester.

Claire Cheshire from Museums Worcester told ITV Central a former colleague saw Ginny on Drag Race UK, and contacted them on Twitter.

Claire Cheshire from Museums Worcester said "It was actually an ex-colleague of ours, ex-colleague of ours, our former fine art curator - she just put a message on saying 'any chance you'd like to donate this to the museum?'

She said: "We weren't expecting a reply but Ginny very kindly immediately said yes - and then you know, it snowballed from there."

Ginny Lemon is the only Drag Race contestant ever to quit mid-competition, walking off-set to, in their words, create a magical telly moment.

Back in Worcester though - they've created a unique way to make sure some gems of the city's history are definitely not forgotten.
