Shopping vouchers and cinema tickets in exchange for healthier life choices
Cinema tickets and shopping vouchers are some of the rewards up for grabs for people in one Midlands city if they can prove they are leading healthier lifestyles.
The Government has announced a research programme that aims to assess whether people will make healthier choices if they're offered incentives.
Wolverhampton has been chosen as the city for the pilot scheme.
People who take part will be given a fitness tracker which is linked to an app which will encourage participants to increase their step count and eat for fruit and vegetables.
Those who demonstrate healthy choices and behaviours will collect points which they can exchange for cinema or theme park tickets, gym passes, clothes or food vouchers, the Department for Health and Social Care has said.
Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid said: “This pilot is an exciting opportunity to see how we can empower people to make healthy changes to their lifestyle and I would encourage all adults in Wolverhampton to come forward and register their interest.”
If the trial in Wolverhampton is successful then it could be rolled out across the rest of the country.
