Dad attacked by masked carjacking gang in Harborne for the keys to his BMW

ITV News Central Reporter Ciaran Fitzpatrick speaks to the father-of-one, who was suddenly attacked after pulling onto his driveway in Harborne

A doorbell camera has captured the moment a defenceless man was attacked by three masked men for the keys to his BMW.

Mobeen Chaudry had just pulled into his driveway in Harborne in Birmingham and got out of his car when he was suddenly rushed by the gang.

When he saw the men in balaclavas he panicked and ran down his road in fear, but he was kicked to the ground and the keys to his car were snatched from him.

The 37-year-old managed to run back to his car while bravely shouting 'leave me alone.'

He got into his car through the back door but was repeatedly hit over the head until he briefly blacked out, and kicked to the roadside.

The men drove off with the four-month-old white BMW X3M, which is worth £85k.

Police have launched an investigation after the car - which had a tracker fitted - was recovered around 6am in Shirley.

Mr Chaudry said he wanted people to see the shocking CCTV of the attack.

"They are savages, they have no respect or care for anyone," he said.

He added: "I've got lots of cuts, bruises and had two teeth knocked out. I worked hard for that car. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth.

"I saved for many years. I worked long hours and made a lot of sacrifices to afford that car."

The incident happened on Mr Chaudry's driveway at 1am on Saturday November 13.

He said: "I didn't see them approaching as my fence is high. As soon as I saw them I tried to run away down my cul-de-sac.

"I ran away but they tripped me and kicked me a few times on the ground."

Mr Chaudry described how the masked men stole his keys off of him saying: "I was holding on to the key at the time but they managed to get it off me.

"One of them managed to get in the BMW and I chased after them.

"I ran around the back of the car and jumped in through the back door.

"I was on the back seat and tried to get the key back but one of them got into the car alongside me and started hitting me over the head with a kind of tool or weapon.

"He was reversing out and I might have blacked out briefly while they were hitting me over the head.

"I was dragged out of the car and left in the middle of the road."

A neighbour who heard his screams came to his aid and the police came within minutes.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "We’re investigating after a man was targeted in a carjacking as he returned to his home in Harborne at around 1am yesterday morning (13 Nov).

"A man in his 30s was approached by three men as he got out of his BMW who assaulted him before driving off in his car.

"The victim sustained facial injuries and was checked over by paramedics at the scene.

"The car was later recovered in Shirley."
