Dog dies after suffering suspected heart attack from firework noise

ITV News Central's Sarah Kilburn-Wilson reports on the six-year-old Greyhound who died after becoming distressed from hearing fireworks

The owner of a dog which died after suffering a suspected heart attack due to firework noise on Bonfire Night is calling for them only to be let off at organised displays.

Kayleigh Coates, from Telford, says her six-year-old greyhound, Tiger, was shaking and in great distress shortly before he died.

The 36-year-old said she's been left heartbroken following her dog's death. Ms Coates said she had moved their other greyhound, Bo, upstairs after Tiger had died, and put her in a room listening to the radio to keep her calm from the noise.

Ms Coates said: "So I had both of my dogs at home - both Bo and Tiger - I was on my own and Bo was quite happy with the fireworks, there was a lot going off quite early on.

"But Tiger was completely and utterly petrified to the point that he was shaking, scratching, he didn't know what to do."

She adds: "He didn't eat, he was completely off his food, he lay down and basically collapsed on the floor and he just had a heart attack and just went.

"It's crazy that he's gone, it shouldn't have happened, it just shouldn't have."

Ms Coates wanted to share her story to help others understand that while fireworks can give five minutes of fun, they can also give heartbreak to others.
