UPDATE: Jaipur has been found and returned to his owners in Derbyshire.

His owners, Tania, Greg and Jed Potter have told ITV News Central that following the appeal, which "helped make Jaipur the most famous cat in Ashbourne," Jaipur was returned to his rightful family.

They said he was discovered in a street just a few hundred metres from where he was originally 'shooed out' by a delivery driver.

He was picked up by Jill and Keith Wesley who were "kind enough to take him into their home" and phone the family.

Jaipur's owners say they're "absolutely delighted" and are grateful for the support of the local community - they said without the appeal, "he would still be wandering the streets and we’d still be heartbroken."

The 'devastated' owners of a missing cat are appealing for help after it's thought to have jumped into the back of a supermarket delivery van.

Jaipur, who wears a collar bearing his owner's address, phone number and postcode, went missing on Monday evening after escaping from his owners' holiday cottage near Ashbourne in Derbyshire.

Appealing for help, owners Tania, Greg and Jed Potter said: "One of our guests ordered a grocery delivery at our cottage. It seems that our cat jumped into the back of the delivery van whilst they were unloading the shopping. The driver then left our farm with Jaipur, our cat, in the back.

"Two drops further on he discovered the cat huddled in the freezer compartment and shooed him out of the van. Our cat has now been missing for four days and we are devastated."

His owners believe the cat had been in the moving vehicle for around 10 minutes.

After getting in contact with the supermarket, the owners believe Jaipur was left at a large housing development in Ashbourne.

They say they've spent days looking for him, but have had no luck: "Having now spent several days searching for him and knocking on doors we are no further forward."

With a night of loud fireworks approaching, the family say "the thought of him scared and frightened outside on bonfire night is unbearable."

A £500 reward is being offered for his safe recovery.
