Police force investigated over death of 23-year-old after being detained by officers
A police force is being investigated over the death of a 23-year-old after he was detained by officers in Alfreton, Derbyshire.
He has been named locally as Chad Allford, whom Derbyshire Police said became unwell during an incident involving its officers at around 5pm on Wednesday.
Derbyshire Police has referred itself to the police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
In a statement, police said: "Just before 5pm last night, Wednesday 27 October, officers attended an address on Morewood Drive in Alfreton.
"A 23-year-old man was detained who became unwell, he was taken to hospital by ambulance where he later sadly died.
"The force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct."
