Birmingham's Victoria Square Christmas Tree goes up a week before German market opens

The landmark Christmas tree has landed in Birmingham ... and it's up earlier than normal.

The tree has taken pride of place in Victoria Square to signal to the city that Christmas has arrived.

Elsewhere in the city, chalets and bars have been popping up in preparation for the return of the German Market after it was cancelled for the first time in its history.

The market, which is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year, will be opening on the Thursday November 4, 2021.

Christmas light switch-on revealed...

It's understood the city council has now confirmed the light switch-on in the city centre will happen on the same date - November 4!

Kurt Stroscher, Frankfurt City Council’s director of festivals and events, said: "We are so happy to come back to Birmingham this year and looking forward to seeing people enjoying the market’s festive cheer.

"We’ve missed being part of the city’s Christmas celebrations," he added.
