Two men arrested in Nottingham spiking investigation, police confirm
Two men have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into administering spikings by injection in Nottingham, police have confirmed.
An 18-year-old and a 19-year-old have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to administer poison with intent to injure, annoy or aggrieve, the force said.
The men remain in police custody as enquiries continue, Nottinghamshire Police said.
The arrests were made following a number of enquiries, including reviewing CCTV footage and officers working closely with venues in Nottingham, police said.
This week, Nottinghamshire Police said they were investigating a total of 15 separate incidents of young women and men being spiked with "something sharp" in less than a month.
One report comes from University of Nottingham student, Sarah Buckle, who said she woke up in hospital with no memory of how she got there and a throbbing pain in her hand.
The 19-year-old later discovered she had likely been spiked via a needle to the back of her hand while out in a nightclub.
Sarah has spoken to ITV News about her "shock" and "disgust" at the suspected injection, as reports of women being spiked in across the Midlands are on the rise.
The suspected spiking has left Sarah Buckle feeling "violated" and "vulnerable"
The reports follow other "spiking" incidents in several parts of the country, including in Exeter, and in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Superintendent Kathryn Craner, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "These two arrests come after a plea from myself and the force for people to come forward and report any incidents to us.
"We have now arrested two men on Friday morning on suspicion of conspiracy to administer poison and both are still in custody as our enquires continue.
"I would like to reiterate that these arrests have not been made in connection with a specific case or incident reported to us over the last few weeks of both drink spiking and spiking by a needle."
The arrests are not being linked to any specific allegation of spiking by a needle, or contamination of a drink.
