Do you remember Bullseye? ITV darts-themed gameshow turns 40

The phrase Super, Smashing Marvellous is likely mean just one thing - Bullseye and today it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

The iconic darts themed ITV game show hosted by the irrepressible Jim Bowen dominated TV screens back in the 1980s and 90s.

For years, the game show was produced at ITV Central's studios at Lenton Lane in Nottingham.

Tuesday marks the 40th anniversary of the first time the show appeared on the midlands franchise ATV giving me the perfect excuse to delve into our archives.

The show featured three darts players who were teamed up with a quizzer who were able to win cash and occasionally prizes.

It also featured some of the game's professionals, including a youthful Phil Taylor from Stoke on Trent.

Bowen's unique presentation style and the show's quirky prizes - which sometimes included a speedboat - helped the Sunday afternoons attract around 20,000,000 viewers at its height.

But in 1995 the show's run on ITV finally checked out.
