Pride of Britain: Meet Veronica Kumata - the woman leading Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer charity
The ITV Central Pride of Britain Regional Fundraising Award is given to an individual from the West Midlands, who has gone above and beyond for others, and raised money for charity.
Veronica Kumata, from Birmingham, has been leading the Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer charity for 21 years.
She organises events throughout the year to raise money, and the charity is also there to be a sounding board for anyone who worries, is struggling to pay bills or even buy a wig.
Along with her team of volunteers, Veronica puts together 'hugs in a bag' for breast cancer patients; a selection of goodies that women undergoing treatment said they would like to have.
Then, they're delivered to women's homes or directly to eight hospitals in the area.
'We have give 50 bags a time to the QE, Women's City hospital, Kidderminster hospital, Worcester, Spires, parkway and Little Aston,' Veronica says
Veronica started the charity 21 years ago and has raised one and a half million pounds for equipment for the Breast Cancer centre at Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham.
The charity has also been able to buy a £150,000 mammogram machine that gives instant results, so that women don't have to wait two weeks.
Cathryn Worth from University hospitals Birmingham has praised Veronica for her selfless actions.
She said: "She is an incredible lady her support is fantastic and the way she leads Ladies fighting breast cancer enables us to support patients across the hospital in ways we wouldn't otherwise have been able to."
Helen, who lost her job, said her treatment lasted a year and left her feeling very low
Helen said: "I came across ladies fighting breast cancer by accident, my husband forced me to go to a choir session because he had noticed I wasn't going out and I was feeling very alone."
"That's where I met the ladies and have never looked back," she added.
All this week on ITV Central, we'll be sharing the stories of our four shortlisted nominees.
The winner will be revealed on our programme at 6pm on Friday.
They'll be invited to attend the glitzy Pride of Britain ceremony in London.
