Teenager charged for racial abuse of footballer Tyreik Wright
A teenager has been charged with racially abusing footballer Tyreik Wright on social media following an investigation by West Midlands Police hate crime officer.
A 17-year-old boy has been charged for sending an offensive, racist message to Aston Villa player, Tyreik Wright on Instagram.
The teenager, who can't legally be named due to his age, is from the North East and will appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Thursday 7 October for sentencing.
Enquiries have been led by PC Stuart Ward at West Midlands Police, who is the UK's first dedicated hate crime officer within a football unit.
The message was sent in February, whilst the player was on loan at Walsall.
The striker, who celebrated his 20th birthday last week, is now on a season-long loan at Salford.
