Thieves left empty-handed after brutally attacking pensioner for a car that wasn't his

West Midlands Police are appealing for information after 77-year-old Joe Sharpe was dragged from his bed and attacked during the night.

Two men forced their way into the house in Birmingham and raided the property before waking the man in his bed and demanding keys to an Audi on the drive, that wasn't his.  The masked men then dragged him out of bed and punched and kicked him multiple times, whilst demanding the keys to the vehicle, before leaving empty-handed. He suffered serious injuries including a cut lip, broken ribs, and a dislocated shoulder. He remains in hospital in a serious condition after suffering a bleed on the brain, which medical professionals believe could be a result of the assault.

Joe's son Tony and daughter Angie say the attack has done much more damage to their father's health than was done to the house.

The attempted robbery happened between 1.20am and 1.45am on Moor Green Lane, Birmingham.

West Midlands Police are asking people to come forward with information if they saw anything unusual, or have CCTV footage that might help find who did this.
