Birmingham Hippodrome has announced its pantomime season this year is cancelled - with live productions on hold until February 2021 at the earliest.
The venue, which usually hosts around 500,000 visitors a year, says it would not be ‘financially viable’ to host performances while social distancing measures remain in place.
Plans are in place for the festive pantomime tradition to return next year, with Jason Donavan and Matt Slack two of the names confirmed for next year’s dates.
Matt, who has a dedicated seat in his name at the venue, says he is gutted this year's Christmas performances are cancelled.
For the pantomime company behind the production, the postponement was a difficult decision.
Caroline Miller OBE, Chief Executive, Birmingham Royal Ballet, has said an alternative venue for this year’s The Nutcracker is being looked for.
